I am interested in an imaginary space that alternates between depth and flatness through the layering of linear elements with multi-colored shapes. Lines projecting from flat forms can give the illusion of depth. Those same lines can serve as connectors, tethering a figure to the ground or linking disparate bodies.
Time is an important part of my process, literally and figuratively. When I make etchings, the process of scratching, scraping, sanding is embedded in the plates and then made visible in the print. The interior spaces, still life tableaux, and pieces of furniture, suggest the residue of past actions, or the implication of future events. | Rachel Gross 344 Fairview Terrace White River Junction, VT 05001 Vermont North America T: +1 8022951564 F: M: W: http://rachelgross.net
