It has been announced that Steve McQueen’s first feature film, 'Hunger', has officially been selected to open the ‘Un Certain Regard’ section of the Cannes Film Festival this year. The film will compete for the prestigious Camera d'Or.
Steve McQueen has co-written 'Hunger' with acclaimed playwright Enda Walsh and directed the film which follows the highly emotive events surrounding the 1981 IRA Hunger Strikes.
The film was produced by Blast! Films, backed by Channel 4 / Film 4, Northern Ireland Screen, The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland 'Sound and Vision' Fund and the Welsh Creative IP Fund. 'Hunger' stars Michael Fassbender, recently seen in 'Ozon's' Angel
4 June - 26 July 2008
As part of at national tour supported by the Art Fund, Steve McQueen's 'Queen and Country' has now been installed at the Barbican foyer. The installation is to coincide with the run of the award winning play Black Watch which is based on interviews with soldiers of that regiment who have fought in Iraq. Visitors are invited to take part in Steve McQueen’s vision and sign The Art Fund’s online petition in support of the project's aim for a set of official postage stamps to commemorate service men and women who have lost their lives in the conflict in Iraq. Find out more at www.artfund.org/queenandcountry. 'Queen and Country' was commissioned by the Imperial War Museum and Manchester International Festival. |
